Due to a temporary restraining order issued a U.S. Federal Court Judge on April 16, 2007, ICANN offered an open invitation to submit statements of interest from accredited registrars starting on the 30th of April to act as a transfer provider. The decision has been made as to who is going to handle the domain transfers but ICANN has yet to officially announce who that registrar will be.
Still no word from ICANN on their promised announcement directly related to Registerfly but there is evidence that they've bee hard at work and looks like they are going to be implementing policies to protect registrants should a failure like Registerfly were to ever happen again. Recently ICANN announced (in pdf form), that they are seeking an agent to back up all Registrar data. Please take a moment to read their latest announcement. While this is a great thing, it's also important that this data is placed in trustworthy hands however, it's certainly a positive change.
