RegisterFly open forum discussion

ICANN will be holding a special session in the open forum at its Lisbon meeting on Monday 26 March 2007.

President and CEO Paul Twomey will give his president's report at 10.30am in which he will briefly cover what should be discussed in the session.

The session proper will then start at 12pm GMT/UTC with a rundown on what happened and what the current situation is, given by senior vice president of services, Kurt Pritz, followed by a panel discussion and open floor for questions.

The panel will include representatives from:
  • ICANN's At Large Advisory Committee
  • gTLD registrars
  • ICANN's Security and Stability Advisory Committee
  • And other consitituency groups

The meeting will be webcast and audiocast.

A chatroom for those both in the meeting and those online is available (registration required). This is the chatroom for the actual meeting room, not solely for the RegisterFly discussion so we would ask those interested in the RegisterFly issue to wait until the session starts to begin posting relating comments.

Webcast | Audiocast | Chatroom.

ICANN will be presenting a summary of the public comments made over the issue to the meeting, covering posts made to the ICANN blog, emails sent to ICANN staff and other relevant postings made online.

ICANN also welcomes comment and questions on this site as the meeting is in progress. There are several methods of providing this input - the chatroom; a forum specifically for this topic; and comments made to this post (click "add comment" below).

http://blog.icann.org/?p=72 = PDF download there -- This is an Awareness paper only, set your expectations as such.

We played the webcast here for a small group on our HD screen. We asked for an archive download for later, such that the West Coast (PST) folks could catch this webcast video. Keiren responded yes, i would imagine that may take some time to create and upload though, it was a long session. Quality was quite good.

Excellent commentary and calls for action by Vittorio, Kieren, and Elliot Noss of TUCOWS gave me hope that solid reasoning out there does exist, and has influence on our behalf.... how that translates into actual results is yet to be determined.

Well i was there and participate but i'm not so optimistic as you.

As i said i did agree with Vittorio and still think that the best way to defend registrants is for all of us registrants to be in possession of some kind of transfer/unlock code that do not depend of current registrar.

And i didn't see good evidence on the side of registrars to gladly accept this ( this goes as well for Elliot's considerations about good registrar pratices and the somewhat vacous statment from the regsitrars constituency! )
