HELP HAS ARRIVED - This is a step-by-step guide to obtaining your domain authorization code. You need this to transfer your domain names away from Registerfly to an ICANN accredited registrar.

Log into your registerfly account by going to:

 https://registerfly.com/scripts/login.php.

Step 1


Click on "Manage Domains"

Select the domain name to be transferred

Click on the + (plus) sign to expand the "Domain Contact Information" row

Scroll all the way down to the bottom and click "Configure"

Make Note of your Authorization Code or Copy-Paste

The Registerfly Authorization Code should be 10 characters long.

If your Registerfly Authorization Code is RRP, the best thing to do is to email:

This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

with all the following details:

  1. A quick description of your problem.  Example: I'm an unable to get domain authorization codes from registerfly. All transfer codes read "RRP".
  2. Include a list of all accounts you can't get authorization codes for.  Example: Please send authorization codes for the following domains:  YOURCOMPANY.NET, YOUR-COMPANY.COM
  3. Include Your Registerfly Account Name ONLYExample: Registerfly Account: YOURACCOUNTNAME
  4. Include your Registerfly Account Email.  Example: Registerfly Account Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
  5. Include the date of the last attempt you made to acquire your authorization codes.  Example: The last attempt I made to acquire my authorization codes from Registerfly was on March 17 2007.

ICANN will respond to your email in a couple of days and will force registerfly to give you the authorization codes.

The email address in this article is incorrect.

The correct address to send your request to at ICANN is transfer-questions@icann.org

The difference is the s just before the @.

More Tips to get out...

If you haven't had a chance to read all the forum posts here's some quick tips that might help (if any of you have more tips...post them too, we all need to help each other get through this).

1. TUCOWS: Look at your domain in whois.sc if the registrar says TUCOWS or OPENSRS instead of Registerfly then you can get help - just call tucows at 1-800-371-6992 (hold time about 30 mins but you will get through - trying going thru sales dept) or you can emailing them at compliance@tucows.org or compliance@opensrs.org (ask them to push your domains into your management with a free opensrs account or to give you auth codes so you can transfer).

2. ENOM: Look at your domain in whois.sc if the registrar says ENOM instead of Registerfly then you can get help - just call eNom at 425.274.4500 or you can emailing them at customersupport@ enom.com or elida@enom.com (ask them to push your domains into your management with a free enom account or to unlock and give auth codes so you can transfer).

3. If your Whois data does show registerfly. First try to unlock domains in system, try to change whois info admin email if you need to, get your auth code from the system (this forum gives instructions on where to find your auth code here http://www.registerflies.com/registerfly-faq-section/how-to-get-authorization-code-2.html). If you can unlock and have your auth code try transferring via any registrar of your choice (i recommend mydomain as they have a $5 transfer special for registerflies folks, coupon code 'registerflies' at http://www.mydomain.com/reginfo.php. Tip - don't give up if first transfer fails, keep re-initiating the transfers when possible some do go through on 2nd 3rd attempt with mydomain).

4. If all else fails, contact transfer-questions@icann.org or ombudsman@icann.org and give them details of your issue and what you need, be sure to provide them the date you tried to contact registerfly, your issue, your domains, your register user account id and your contact information.

For those of you stuck in RRP...
like me, the push to another account seems to not behave for .com TLD within registerfly.. its still RRP.

Here is your outcome with ICANN transfer-question@icann.org :

They will forward your request for Authcodes to Registerfly and ask you to wait 5 days for a result.

Personally i think any customer should be treated with respect enough that a request should not require ICANN attention and repetition of the request... but i have a couple days to see if this works apparently... which is semi-braindead since waiting and getting nowhere has been the only repeatable outcome.

I would like to suggest another approach that may work if done well.

Establish a public list of domains that have been RRP'd , renew-failed, and linkfarmed, expirefly hijacked, or otherwize removed from the control of the domain name registrant.

even ICANN sees this...DR Twomey states:

"Registrants clearly want ICANN to have more capacity to access data on their behalf if there are significant problems with their registrar. There is a need for better enforcement mechanisms and an ability for ICANN to intervene more quickly if a registrar fails or is engaged in damaging business practice"

All well and good if they (ICANN) are aware of what domain is at stake and who is being harmed... so i think we should inform them, with an auditable list of domains. Not hidden in an email request. A Huge Global OUT THERE AND IN PLAIN VIEW list of all,for those who would sweep the little guy under a rug, one domain at a time.

That list can be produced right here, for the purpose of seeing the situations of each domain repaired.

but for the moment i will just donate to registerflies and hope.

yes the domain not found error when trying to update a record seems to be that registerfly has the domain in the system but it was never fully assigned to the users account (might be in the account list) but the user wasn't given permissions perhaps.

For those who have expired domains at RegisterFly and cannot renew, it seems it is still possible to transfer these domains.
Just get to manage your domains, select domains, unlock them and domain status will be changed to delete prohibited.
Then you will be able to obtain authorisation code. This way I initiated two expired domains transfer today, hope they will be transfered soon.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work for those who get the error "Domain Not Found"

I haven't found a fix for this one, yet. So any help would be appreciated.

What a waste of time and effort when we're all pretty sure that there's no one at RF!

The best I can come up with at this stage is to sit tight and wait until 31st when the whole lot will be handed to a responsible Registrar to sort out.

They can't force RF to do anything...RF is still showing the ICANN logo on their site...and I have sent several notes to ICANN regarding my domains and although I have responses from them, it has not caused RF to react to me in any way.

The step-by-step guide is useful IF the RF site was working as it should. I sincerely hope it helps people, but so far, this guide has not helped me in any way.

Remember that there are a lot of folks who are having problems. Be persistant -- and patient. Keep contacting the icann address, and the compiance address at RF.

Also, consider emailing the top level registrar, too. There was also an offer posted by a Tech at RF who was sympathetic, and helped me get my auth codes. Between that, and action by the top level registrar to unlock my domains in that domain not found state, I was able to initiate transfers.

Of course, now it will take 5 days because the RF systems are apparently dysfunctional. This past weekend I transfered a domain, and got the release email from RF. But now even that seems to have stopped working.

Folks at RF are trying (at least some of them), but they are absolutely swamped. So too will be the support folks at other registrars as they try to help soon to be former RF customers.

I had tried over 2 weeks to transfer over 100 of my domains from RegisterFly and was successful with majority of them.
I wrote about my problematic domains (such that had RRP or blank auth code) to [email]Oscar@registerfly.com[/email] . I know it sounds a little bizarre, but today, after 72 hours since sending my email, I received reply telling that my domains have authorization codes available. And it was true.
I still have one domain with mixed-up whois information and some domains younger then 60 days (I am not worried about the young ones) at RegisterFly.

Please use following form when writing to Oscar:

I have only been able to rescue a single domain...and there is one more that is extremely important, but as the days pass and I begin to see how inept ICANN is and how the whole "deregulation" of TLD registration is a farce. I am resigned to accept the fact that it is likely I will lose all of my domains permanently.

How do we know who to trust any more? How do we know which registrars actually are reputable? It seems that getting an ICANN logo to slap onto your site is supposed to give some kind of credibility -- but it doesn't. We know that now. Right now I have ZERO trust in ANY registrar, including the one that I have changed to as a result of this debacle.

I hope that the registrars out there are seriously paying attention to this...because as a lone member of this gigantic internet, I am pointing a finger at all of you and demanding that you PROVE that you are not a Registerfly in the making.

What do I do if my authocode is: "Auth Code" ? I had it for one of my domains for some time now and it just wont transfer.

if you have no auth code or it says auth code you basically don't have one so you need to contact icann for help or ask a registrar if you can transfer without an auth code if you fax over your identification and screenshot of your RF account showing you own it... some registrars that are aware of RF issues are best ones to ask, like aplus, godaddy, enom, mydomain

Really? Cause I mailed and asked MyDomain (the registrar to which I'm moving to) and they said that they could do NOTHING if I didn't have an Auth Code. Are there registrars that are better for the transfer?

I did all the steps stated above a week or so ago, emailed ICANN and heard nothing. This whole thing is a joke on us!

We have one domain left on RF and I'm convinced we just have to wait until it runs out and then register it at another registrar.

that has not happened, i've been thru this with icann, first they say wait 2 business days and contact them if you have not heard from registerfly...i did this, then they said they have forwarded the email again to registerfly and to wait 5 days for response...i did this and nothing...guess what they said next? yes, that's right forward email...wait...forward email....wait...forward email...wait... geesh i might as well just email them myself the email icann is using is compliance@registerfly.com and if they are not listening to icann why on earth would they bother listening to us...for the domains that we cannot get out, we might as well all sit on a a merry-go-round and spin and keep on spinning around until we hear news on 31st.

The above information is good, but useless when you can't remove ProtectFly and other issues.

I have tried numerous times, and it's the same problem. The domain is stuck with the Registerfly info and email address.

Nothing seems to work.

I've done everything stated above. The reply I got to my second email to ICANN was that they forwarded the auth code request to john.oneil@regsiterfly.com

I've even faxed my request. It's been over 5 days.

NOTHING.

At least my domain names are working and not set to expire soon, but what happens when RF's WHOIS server gets shut down?

When RF shuts down - 31st March?

ICANN will presumably have all of the RF customer records and will transfer the whole lot to a new Registrar - e.g. GoDaddy, eNOM, etc.

This will hopefully not cost all the domain name holders money.

Hi...I just wanted everyone to know that I unlocked all my domains. Then I signed up for a completely new user with new email address. Then I pushed my domains to new use and CHECKED THE BOX TO CHANGE WHO IS INFO ON TRANSFER.

Now all my domains are in the new user and NONE have protectfly anymore.

Not much can be done if RF don't remove Protectfly.

I've had luck by using Registerfly Fax Support. I faxed them with my problem accounts, a few days later a rep called me (on their dime from FL), gave me some Auth codes over phone and emailed me the rest a few days later. She also mangaged to Unlock a name that showed it was unlocked on RF but really wasn't. She has emailed me several times with more codes and other assistance... Still strugling with 4 accts showing Protectfly OFF on RF but is really still on - configure info doesn't work - error messages. Julia was able to get me the Auth codes for those accounts... now working with GoDaddy to see if they can start transfer with Auth codes and bypass email transfer request.

Maybe I'm lucky? Remember - be polite even if you are angry at RF, it isn't the reps fault...

This is great if we can see our domains in the RF control panel but does anyone have any suggestions when the domains are completely missing from the RF control panel?

Update from previous post - just got an email from Julia - RF support in FL... she was able to remove Protectfly from 2 of my names that I was unable to. I asked her to give it a try on final 2 names - hope to hear back from her. Although it showed Protectfly OFF on RF site, WhoIs still had it on... when I tried to configure new contact info I got error messages. Thank goodness for Julia!

Try faxing support. Number is on RF site. It worked for me.

Lot of good this does IF you can't access the admin on RF's site..

We've been locked out since early feb, bout the time our domain was going to expire.. course asking for the login info fails as the account info email says support@registerfly.com

now what?

I got my customers name released using the info above. Before you initiate a transfer make sure that you change all of the contact email addresses(on the page that has the 10 digit release code) to your own so the request is processed by you and not registerfly.

I've tried everything suggested by everyone on this site. I can't get auth codes, I can't get my domains moved.

I could be more frustrated, but I'm not sure how!

I did these steps and followed the instructions per GoDaddy and the domains are still in "Accept transfer at current registrar" status. I gave the correct auth codes and everything. Do I just have to wait or is there something else I have to do?

Well misery Loves company and many of us seem to be in a sinking ship, but there may be a twinkle of Hope.
I was informed of this on going issue with RF by a dear friend just a week ago and She had lost her domain RF took money for renewal, they actually Triple dipped but the Money was never applied to the account and her domain expired (supposedly), she found it owned by another Company. Anyway Long story short she continued to check on availability Via GODADDY and Luckily it became available Today and she was able to Buy it Back. Apparently RF was Holding it under a different company Name for resale at a Much inflated Price and for some unknown reason they let it go. So Don't Give Up if you Lost your domain, it may still surface, KEEP Checking.
As for my Domain I have the issue of Protect Fly and have had no luck in transfer and even though it's under ENOM they as yet have been No Help and Have not responded to any email.
