Quick announcement.  John and Glenn have re-gained control of Registerfly and the site is currently down due to them moving it over to the new server.  So this domain name successfully transferred away from Kevin Medina and is now under full control of John and Glenn along with Mark Klein.  Glenn couldn't talk long because they were on their way to a meeting with the FBI.  That's the news.

Can you get an explaination of the a--hole that answers the phone claiming there was no major problem and it would be up any minute for the last month? Far as im concerned theyr reliability is still as bad as it ever was.

Topend,

Best yet! You gotta love it, cover your arse and say there isn't nothing wrong at all

Dude trust me, they are probably scrambling to get all of this in order and let's just hope for the best and pull together on this. I so love this site and the Admin that has put his life and time on doing this for everyone "Hands Down"

Anyhow, old saying, "Do not put too many eggs in one basket."

Now I found it very easy to xfer domains out of there if they are under the Registerfly and not ENOM.

Step one: Turn the protectfly off
Step two: Make sure your contact information is in the whois.
Step three: Get the xfer code once you update your whois
Step four: request it from the other registrar
Step five: Get the e-mail for the request

Final: Under 24 hours = Moved!!!!!!!

I did this as a test to an enom account and it was pretty rapid.

Anyhow lets see how well this pans out with registerfly here today!

Here's hoping that they get things back in total control and dig their way out of the situation they find themselves in.

Yesterday afternoon, I was able to get into every one of my domains, adjust protectfly settings and update the registration settings. So, at least on my end, it's pretty obvious that someone over there is working. I guess I may be one of the few that has every intention of sticking with them.

I've been using their free hosting for six years, with some minor hiccups.
If you can find anyone who can beat $6.99/yr registration with 1G free hosting, i will move, otherwise, i'll stick around until they get their act back together, one bad apple does not spoil the whole bunch.

Anyone who thinks any of the information they've been reading here since Justin became best buddies with John and Glenn is trustworthy is deluding themselves. Plain and simple. RegisterFly doesn't give a rat's ass about any of us.

If control of the servers is back, then get the hell out. Don't wait for this to collapse down around you again in 6 months. Because it will.

Hey I have read some issues here.. now I will say I have been with them since 2000 after I left network solutions ( tired of the $35ea domain), now here's the issue, I have had crappy customer service since day 1, I hate to ever try to get anything answered from them, they are useless ! Now fast forward to late summer 06, they were having a bunch of transfer fails once they were pulling from enom. NOW fast forward again, this past weeks (3 of them), I set up godaddy account and began to move domains.. well in doing this I got emials from enom bagging on registerfly and vise versa, so I have managed to move 4 domains from enom to godaddy, not a one as of yet from regstierfly, I even moved 2 expired domains ( as I couldn't renew with registerfraud), so in doing that I finally spoke with a Vivianna from the FL # and she told me a story about the NJ people shouldn't be answering the phone let alone doing any business since they are moving register to FL, well I was able to figure out something interesting.. my oldest domains were changed to the owner email as Glenn@registerly.com and the 3 that I had just had for say less then 6 months were still under mine, in doing that I went to unlock names to transeer to go daddy and was able to log in and get codes for the newer names not the older names (they kept giving me user error), so I was able to transfer a few names, 3 from enom and 1 from register, now the older names for example one I have had since 98 is still at registerfraud and not able to access to get codes.. now I noticed that there site seams to be down at the moment ( I was able to call the 973 # and got a lady that sounded like she was from India, and she started to give me some lie about this and that, I said, I'm not stupid I know exactly that your screwing over tons of people at this very moment.. and she shut up...

So good luck and I would move my stuff OUT ASAP I HATE that company and will NEVER do business with them, as they have cost me a ton, my site longskate.com was down for 4 weeks, 3d911.com was down for 6 weeks (it expired) and the list is long, oh yeah I forgot I had even been sent an email from them saying if you stay with us, call and we will give you coupon code for for renewals etc.. and that was a lie, I have all this in emails so I hope the FBI or whomever files a class action suit and asks for my stuff, I have a stack of it I can prove !

Good luck, keep us all posted and thanx !

Discontinuation of using reseller services with enom.com

We are aware that enom may have sent a notice in regards to the relationship between enom/registerfly.

As of February 2006 RegisterFly.com become an ICANN Accredited registrar. We formerly used to resell domain services under enom.com but stopped accepting registrations for them on February of 2006 (1 year ago). Since we are ICANN Accredited we have no need to process new registrations/transfers under enom anymore and spent the past year moving large numbers of names away from enom.com to RegisterFly.com. The amount of names remaining at enom.com is relatively small. Any registrations/transfers after February 1st 2006 are directly under RegisterFly.com, inc. which would not be affected by this.

Our top priority is ensuring our customers are not impacted in anyway during this transition. If you are a registerFly.com customer, rest assured we value your business and strive to offer the lowest possible pricing with the best online tools. For a limited time you can renew/transfer your name away from enom.com for only $5.99 per domain name. One year will be added upon
completion of the transfer. If you decide to stay with enom as the registrar you will pay considerably higher to renew than the special $5.99 rate we are offering. You can contact our customer care center at 305-674-0165 (8AM to 9PM) or via email at customercare@registerfly.com on specifics on how to move your domain name(s) over and take advantage of these special savings today.

If you call within the next 48 hours and take advantage of this offer you will be eligible to receive an additional $7.99 account credit towards next years renewal.

To contact our support staff:

You know what I think?
I think they've not paid their NOC for the racks, and they've pulled the plug on them - the registerfly dns has not been updated to point to any new server, as the IP's haven't changed, and the servers aren't responding.

Could this be the end?

DeanClinton Registered | 2007-03-06 15:06:21
I think the emails come from the registry direct, but have your original registry address attached to it?

If you look at the headers of the email, it should show you where it came from.

It could be that if the NOC did pull the plug on the network, some of it's coming back online?
whizz - Who are John and Glenn and wha Registered | 2007-03-06 15:22:01
Clearly these two do not live in our universe. If they have control of RF and intend to "help customers", why not replace the website with a temporary page explaining what they are doing and when they anticipate it returning? Why not have their support people at least admit there's a problem? Why close tickets with bogus answers?

Either they are not in control, or we don't yet appreciate what their real constraints or goals are.

For example, has anyone checked to see if there is an injunction in effect requiring them to take down their website as it was luring more people into their honey pot?

I wonder what is really going on as there are far too many threads for this to all add up as anything but damaging for all the customers.

Regarding transfering names from RF:

It does work so long as you have an authorization code and your domain name is not locked, not "protected" by ProtectFly and not incorrectly locked as expired (or some other registrar status that prevents transfer).

We have initiated the transfer of 134 out of our 138 domain names. The remain 4 are actually with ENOM and are already pushed back to ENOM - which fortunately include our two main email domain names.

(Of course, this total also includes the 3 lost names: whois shows they are still registered to us but they do not appear in RF domain management list ...)

Of the 138, most of the transfers are still in progress. However, some have already made the transfer and each day (as this initiation process was done in batches over several days) more come through the process successfully.

However, there are names that won't move - about 20% on average have some RF-caused issue. We'll track those and work with whoever cleans up the RF mess to ensure ownership is maintained.

Ignoring the time we've spent on this, the cost so far is about $5 per name. That's some cash to lay out but we have seen ZERO reason to trust RF even if all the stories about the wayward Kevin M. are true and the rest of the staff are "innocent".

In our minds they are far from "innocent": they kept up the charade of running an reliable business right up until they apparently voluntarily took their website down. Shame on them for not being honest with the world.

I did send the Admin of this website a PDF describing the process steps we have used to transfer our domain names. We had developed it before the great FAQs were posted and converted it to email as we don't have the time to HTML it. Unlike the FAQs, we documented a step by step process and an optomized way in which to handle the RF domain management interface to save time.

He's done a wonderful thing for us all in providing this website and I've left it up to him to judge whether the PDF was worth posting and if so post it somewhere as I could find no way of attaching a PDF to a posting here. We have provided it to those of our customers who have domain names registered at RF - I just hope they started the transfers before RF took down its website.

Registerfly.net still seems to work, and the IP of that domain is 66.118.144.68 according to DNSreport.com. If you know how to modify your HOSTS file (windows users) then try manually pointing "registerfly.com" and "www.registerfly.com" to that IP (the links to the account manager point back to the "registerfly.com" URL). That way at least some more AuthInfo codes can be obtained during the downtime. If you do manage to manually point "registerfly.com" to 66.118.144.68 on your computer, go on the manage domains page, click on a domain in question, then click the "edit contact details" link. At the bottom of the "edit contact details" page is the AuthInfo code you need. Just hope it isn't blank, like some people keep reporting...

We noticed it had come back up. However, I would recommend not trying to do much with it as it is very unstable. Some things appear to work and others don't even have pages associated with them.

If you are looking for Auth Codes, you may find them but as far as we can tell no missing codes have "appeared" and the RRP problem has not be fixed.

The database is not that old as some of our recent changes are there, but others aren't.

Just a mess - be wary.

Also, still not notice to the public or to users about the state of it. Just business as usual. What a crock!

Yeah, I pointed that out specifically in response to the last ICANN announcement over on their blog. In my mind, the fact that their website is materially unchanged, with an "ICANN approved" logo, and the fact that they are taking new orders all represent a continuing violation.
debstl - Frustrated IP:70.242.129.242 | 2007-03-06 18:09:15
I still want to know what happens to the names that are expired because registerfly didn't renew them. I pushed one of them to enom.com and they tell me I can get it back for $160.00 because it's in extended RGP. And it can stay that way for up to a year. So I guess they plan on just stealing my domain. That's a bunch of bull!

One of the responses to the support tickets I opened is gone. Guess I'll have to send another one. But I'm not feeling optimistic because enom tells me registerfly can't get the domain back now because it's already been pushed to enom. What a nightmare!

I updated my nameservers in my RegisterFly acct; got confirmation that operation completed successfully. Within 30 minutes my whois info was updated with new server names. I had initially done this (added my new nameserver info last Friday) but until this evening, my info was showing RF's server.

I just checked about 5 whois databases and my nameserver info has already been updated. Now my next step is to tranfer my domain. I am 8 days away from the 60-day no transfer timeframe since I renewed my domain in Jan 2007. My status still shows LOCKED at Registerfly's whois, but is shows OK on all the other whois databases.

One step at a time until I get this resolved. I am so thankful for this registerflies site.

My sentiments exactly. I didn't want to go thru the hassles of transferring 50+ domains, but I've had enough. I stuck by RF's transfer from enom into their own ICANN account, and I don't mind an occasional glitch, but I've had it.

The worst part for me has been the mental anguish of not knowing what was going on and getting the run-around from customer service. If I hadn't stumbled upon this site (while searching for an alternate phone number for RF) I would be clueless about what's really happening.

RF should have placed a notice on their site (or sent us an e-mail) advising users that they were temporarily inoperational or something - just as a simple common courtesy, instead of processing registrations and renewals that were doomed to fail and accepting our credit card payments.

I threw good money after bad just to keep live domains from expiring to no avail. I can't take any more. I'm gone.

Anyone NOT planning to leave registerfly IF and when they eventually get control of their domains seriously needs to reconsider.

The transfer process is quick and easy when it works and a little effort now may save you big in the long run.

Please be logical people, what possible reason do you have to trust this company? I got all my domains out except 1 after losing 2 to the scumbags in December.

I am still trying to get refunds from them for domains that I paid for and which appeared in my account but were never actually registered, also for missing domain parking revenue and failed transfer requests.

They are still deleting tickets that they don't like too.

DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!!

stay if you want but even if their is a 1% likelihood of future pain is it worth it ?

Not sure if anyone knowticed .. but this WHOLE TIME register fly has denied to its customers they were even out of control. It was the forum members i think that dug up the information of whats REALLY going on. IF it wasnt for that .. RF would be feeding us bullsh*t stories by the truck load, and in fact they continue to do so if you call there 'tech' lines. I had no problem reaching their tech # quickly all february. When they answer its the same indian claiming 'The tech department just sent him a notice its almost back.' and that I can not talk to them b/c they are a seperate department that is unable to make any contact with customers and their supervisor is ALWAYS not available or in a meeting.

Im willing to bet there paying this 3rd party to answer fowarded phone calls and lie to customers in a bad attempt to make people wait (FOREVER), until the one day they get 'active' again (if ever). Think about it .. 500,000+ customers calling a company with 5 employees. CAN NOT BE DONE. Sorry people, but every day Register Fly is digging themselves a deeper hole. I dont care if they gave domains away after words .. its not worth the risk of losing it completely. And after 1 year with ICANN they completely run a muck, ICANN sends out worthless warnings with no action and now they think there going to stay a credited registrar? YA RIGHT! I tell you what .. in 20 yrs when they convict this guy .. then they can come back with a new name (pretend they never heard of RF .. which should be easy for them b/c they obviously are mass liers).

I dont know what this guy os thinking to go and mortgage his home and everything he owns for a dead beat company that has a 'household name' of STAY AWAY .. STAY VERY FAR AWAY.

IMO all updates should prob. be disregaurded or labeled 50% B/S until someone here has seen PHYSICAL evidence of there claims. They has been feeding 'were almost back' since the day they went DOWN. HELLO!

I think even if they do 'come back' .. there gonna get sued to death by customers that lost statically proven business. (hopefully there adding these things into the law suite against themselfs (former CEO)).

good luck people .. and I can wait till these expired domains hit the resale market again and spammers scoop up $10,000 domains for $5.

I agree, it's a big headache to transfer over 100 domains. However, could we be sure that we won't loose them instead?
I advice to transfer the most important ones, at first - while it's not too late.
(initiated 10 transfers yesterday - 1 domains authorization code invalid, taken from registerfly, and for another 1 even impossible to grab contact data and initiate transfer)

I did. 1st big problem was in the middle of December. I was late to renew couple domains for exactly 1 day, I've renewed them, but... actually they weren't renued untill right now. However, RegisterFly supported several times stated that 'should wait 3-5 days'. (last time was after 3 weeks since renewal ordered).
It was an alert, that something is wrong with them - but couldn't expect that things will go this way 2 months later.

Please be logical people, what possible reason do you have to trust this company? I got all my domains out except 1 after losing 2 to the scumbags in December.

Yep, same happened for me in December..

However, right know is impossible to transfer some domain names, while impossible to enter own contact info instead of protectly, due to some wrong authjorization codes, or troubles by obtaining whois information, when you order transfer at other registrar.

Anyway, better try to transfer domains than leave them as is. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

HERES THE FACTS:

RegisterFly has and continued to rip off hundreds of thousands of customers on a daily basis and continue to lie and denie the situation and run out false claims that it is coming back any minute.

The EXCUSES are Irrelavant.

also .. why on earth would they deny ICANN access to there database? ICANNs trying to help, and there giving ICANN problems. Im willing to bet theres MUCH MUCH deeper details to this case than were are aware of. Such as what turned this CEO on his own million dollar company? Are we supposed to beleive he had a mid-life crisis and the huge payroll of being CEO wasnt good enough? I doubt it. Maybe the current owner of RegisterFly is actually the prick and the one who drove this man to leave everything he ever worked for. Its hard to speculate without talking to these people, but unfortunately at this point its in to the legal system and government and im sure they are advised to not disclose any information in regaurds to ANYONE.

At this point I think this needs to be news broadcast all over the world so EVERYONE can preserve there right to domain property ownership by transfering immediately before there lost forever. Its like your name was erased from the title of your home and for $8.50 anyone could claim its ownership w/o you even knowing.

IMO a domain name is like a street address. RegisterFly has ERASED ENTIRE BUSINESSES FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH (internet). Thats a huge offense and im waiting for a classs suite. If there doesnt end up being one .. they minds well continue doing what theyr doing.

although this website has been providing info, nothing here as seemed to help. Non of the information is verifiable..

Thank you to the admin for updates, but this site is proving worthless in terms of what the admin has provided us. Everytime something happens, there seems to be an excuse to accompany it. And why does John never have the time to actually provide a decent explanation. He is always running off somewhere.. This is all because the updates here are not true nor verifiable.

My domain was stuck with RF. THE SAME TIME KEVIN MEDINA POSTED HERE SAYING HE IS GAINING CONTROL OF THE SYSTEMS, ALL DOMAINS WERE FREE TO BE UNLOCKED.

PEOPLE NEED TO THINK ABOUT THIS, HOW HARD IS IT ACTUALLY TO RESUME NORMAL SERVICE. FINE, FORGET THE TECH SUPPORT, HOW HARD CAN IT ACTUALLY BE TO RESUME SERVICE AS IT WAS BEFORE WHERE DOMAINS CAN BE RENEWED AND DOMAINS CAN BE TRANSFERRED AWAY..

PEOPLE HERE ARE BEING TAKEN ON FOR A RIDE..
admin - Thank you Super Administrator | 2007-03-07 10:22:07
Mikey... first you thank me for the updates and then you say what I've provided is worthless. That doesn't make much sense to me.

As far as verifying, please offer your professional advice on how this information should be verified. We're actually looking for someone to take on the position of "verifier" so if you are interested in such a position, please send me an email with your information and you can get started right away.

Thank you for taking the time to make such an insightful comment.

Mikey,

Why are you shooting the messenger?

admin started this site and has been keeping it running to warn people to NOT use RegisterFly.

But, since people remained at RegisterFly and the corporation imploded due to (alleged) misconduct by the CEO, before and after he was fired, admin has been trying to help people get out of RegisterFly, provide coverage of what is going on internally at RegisterFly, and also serve as some sort of communication outlet for the officers at RegisterFly who do seem to sincerely value their customers.

Instead of persecuting admin we should be thanking him for his hand in being a catalyst which helped to bring down RegisterFly, for providing an alternative method of submitting support requests to RegisterFly staff, and for offering forums where RegisterFly can share information and help one another.

If you want to vent at anyone, it should be both ICANN, who stepped in FAR too late, and Kevin Medina.

With that said, why not stick around, become a contributing member of this site and help to bully ICANN into taking responsibility for its registrar governing responsibilities?

avatar I think this site has provided a wonderful service and I appreciate it immensely.

I can't tell you how I have worried myself sick about my domains. My internet businesses are my only income and everything revolves around my domain names registered with RF (some of which I'm currently in the process of transferring to Dotster/MyDomains). Thankfully my hosting is located elsewhere or I'd really be up a creek.

Anyway, I think that some of the people here are simply burnt out from being frustrated, angry and getting the run-around from RF.

These negative comments shouldn't be taken to heart, or taken personally. The people who are making them are probably very upset.

First I'd like to say thanks to the person who put this site up. It's been really helpful.

Secondly, it seems registerfly.com still only has people on the phones that only know enough to say "kindly call back later". For the record, I personally won't be doing business with registerfly.com again and I've had an account with them for at least 5 or 6 years.

IMHO, registerfly.com is done. I've seen this happen before on a smaller scale. I hope other people see this for what it is and move on to bigger and better hosting companies.

Aho

Until Rfly publicly acknowledges what is going on at their own site I will still assume that Kevin Medina is in control of it.
kimvette - Change your registerfly.com pa Editor | 2007-03-07 13:03:52
RegisterFly.COM has been wrestled away from Kevin and is back in RegisterFly, Inc's hands however Kevin put up a copy of the site on registerfly.net.

With that, he has full access to your usernames, passwords, and everything else.

He cannot muck around with RegisterFly, Inc's back end any longer, does not have access to their financials, bank accounts, or any other resources, but with your login credentials he can log in as any user, change the WHOIS, transfer your domains away, and resell them on the open market.

While the arbitration forum can assist you in getting the domains back it can be an expensive process should you need to get attorneys involved.

Please, CHANGE YOUR REGISTERFLY.COM PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY!!!

That's just GREAT for everyone that has ACCESS to their account to be ABLE to change their password.

I can't even get in my account!

I still have not gotten through to anyone in NJ.

Thanks Admin for your resolve and support for everyone during this mess!

WOW! Just called again and the recording said "call wait times are currently running 30 minutes" and I thought "yeah right" and went to music on hold and got about 3 bars played and girl answered!!! WOW!

She said that she didn't have access to the backend yet as they are only about 80% restored but it should be back up within 24hrs. That sounds better than what I've heard before that were just lies. Doesn't mean this is not lies but what the heck ... We'll see.

And she actually handled my pent-up rage very well even after thinking back on it!

I changed my password, logout/login/logout .. all is fine

then, out of curiousity, I manually type in registerfly.net to see how well it's cloned ..

The dropdown for the login doesn't work (no, do NOT actually login!), so I click the tab, which take me to registerfly.COM's secondary login page !?!

and it's the real one .. closed my browser, went to registerfly.COM , logged in with my new password , then I manually went to registerfly.net, doesn't show logged in (cool).. then I clicked the login tab , takes me back to registerfly.COM .. LOGGED IN !

odd phishing site that doesn't allow you to put in a password except on the GENUINE site , don't you think ?

Granted Kevin may have it that way to prevent it's being shut down as a phishing site .. and he could change it at anytime as well

maybe it's always been there as an alternate way to get to registerfly.com(?)

do not check this out unless you know what you are doing ..

Why is registerfly.com silent on all of this, particularly now that Medina is out??? Why not post a message explaining to the customers you have left what is going on, how you're going to handle it and what the future holds. Why PRETEND like nothing as happened???
