ICANN has made an announcement on their website regarding Registerfly.  Please Read More!
  • PIR notified ICANN that the .ORG registry has restored the domains that were in RGP and placed those domains on Server Deleted Prohibited status. [PIR Letter to ICANN]
  • On March 5, 2007, RegisterFly provided a copy of domain name registration data in response to ICANN's request pursuant to RRA section 3.4.4. ICANN is analyzing the data for integrity and completeness. ICANN will respond to RegisterFly with questions regarding aspects of the material provided. This material represents a portion of the material requested in ICANN's letter of February 21, 2007.

The letter provided below:

  Dear Kurt:

Attached is a letter that PIR just received from Registerfly.com regarding their current operational crisis.

PIR currently has about 17,000 registrations in force from Registerfly.com, and we are in the process of determining how many are in RGP or RHP status. Registerfly.com currently has less one dollar in its account with PIR.

In order not to prejudice the innocent victims of this situation, the registrants, PIR is planning to restore the names that are currently in RGP or RHP status. We will place all Registerfly registrations temporarily on "Delete prohibited" status, and we will restore any Registerfly registrations that are currently on "Pending Delete" status.

PIR will deal with request for a waiver of fees after we have more information about the status of Registerfly as an accredited registrar.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about this, and I would appreciate it if you could copy Pam Miller (pmiller  -at- pir .org) on any correspondence.

Thank you and best regards,

Justin,

There has been some unusual activity with www.registerfly.com, vs. registerfly.com (without the www's), as per below--

http://www.registerflies.com/component/option,com_joomlaboard/Itemid,26/func,view/id,1660/catid,14/

Currently all addresses are resolving (although another user reports he is still unable to connect). Can someone look at this and determine whether the site at .com is still safe to use?

Appreciate once again all of your efforts.
freddieb Registered | 2007-03-07 17:25:33
Neither RF with or without the www is resolving for me at 17.25

Have you cleared your cache?
sjwitz Registered | 2007-03-07 17:30:50
> Have you cleared your cache?

Sure did:
ipconfig /cleardns

In fact, I did it again just now when you reported that you couldn't connect...for some reason, I still can at all addresses.
freddieb Registered | 2007-03-07 17:31:23
Hmmmm.! I've been trying for 3 hours, doesn't resolve, I tried another computer, no go.

Is it possible that they are blocking from certain areas?

I'm trying from Australia
freddieb Registered | 2007-03-07 17:33:01
Well, it's just resolved!
sjwitz Registered | 2007-03-07 17:41:43
This all begs the question: Was someone messing with the DNS changes--either earlier today or just now--and the latest changes are only now propagating?
nicola Registered | 2007-03-07 17:42:55
try using the ip address ipconfig http://70.84.105.190 or going in via a proxy like proxify.com or proxysystems.net.
By the way, auth codes are shown at the bottom of your whois data within registerfly account manager.
sjwitz Registered | 2007-03-07 17:51:40
Just did. The home page loaded, but when I clicked on the login page (which uses a registerfly.com URL), I'm again getting a DNS error. It's as if the errors are intermittent, yet the behavior is similar to what I reported at 1700 CT.

(However, I tried it again using proxysystems.net, and all the addresses resolve with that method.)
zgarner Registered | 2007-03-07 18:27:25
I've been having no problems. It may simply be some DNS caching issue (prorogation *can* take a while, especially for those overseas).

If you are comfortable editing your hosts file you can bypass the DNS issue entirely. Although with things being as weird as they are I'd only do this for short periods (who knows if they'll move servers or what will happen, but statically setting it in your hosts file means you'll be ignoring not only DNS outages but also any potentially legit changes).

the line would be something simple:

70.84.105.190 www.registerfly.com
70.84.105.190 registerfly.com

Then so long as the server is responding and configured correctly you should be able to access it while DNS issues get resolved.

Edit:

I'd strongly recommend against using a proxy for anything sensitive, like domain management. Besides, I don't see it as necessary.
nicola Registered | 2007-03-07 19:06:00
how do you edit a host file? in the browser? i'm not sure i understand.
zgarner Registered | 2007-03-07 19:09:30
Ya, sorry Nicola. I'm a networking tech.

I'm on my way out the door so I'll just give you a quick point:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file

I glanced it over. Its wordy (the file isn't *that* tricky) but should get you going if you still need it. Otherwise post and when I get home I'll write some simpler steps.

proxysystems.net works.

hey looks like godaddy is offering to help registerfly customers with discounted transfer rates: https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/transfers/registerfly.asp#charttab

(Admin, if you can ping the RF guys you talk to about this

RF: Fix the "modify contacts" page. We keep getting this:

Error: Bad User name or Password

You need to re-configure your DB or API authentication code or such?

Go go gadget RF.
josephmartins Registered | 2007-03-07 22:09:34
The error "Bad User name or Password" is generated by their Account Management UI no matter what sort of edits you wish to make to your account. This has been true for weeks now. I know, I have tried many times from different PCs and different IPs.

There is no way that is a client side error. Obviously, if you're logged into your account you used the correct username and password.

In my opinion, someone messed with the code to prevent [some of most] account holders from making changes. I just do not understand why more people have not pointed this out.

Has anyone else tried to change domain reg information, or perform any other account edits via the Registerfly Account Mgmt UI? If so, did you not see an "Error: Bad User name or Password"?
nicola Registered | 2007-03-07 21:44:32
has anyone been successful transferring there domains without the auth codes?
teeumup Registered | 2007-03-07 22:29:23
seems unlock no longer works, I can't unlock any domain and I also get the "bad user name or password" I have successfully transferred 2 domains that were with Enom and regained control, they were very helpful in setting up a temp account

I can edit some of my domains but some I cannot and receive that error. The domains that error seem to be the ones that transferred over from eNom to RF or are ".info" TLDs.

I figured it was a result of DB or API access being affected somewhere within their system (i.e. not end user related due to the obvious fact that the end user is logged in and can do some things...as you stated).

I think when moving the system(s) and changing security measures (i.e passwords and such), the RF administrators forgot to update something somewhere.

If they could fix that (and the missing Auth Codes generated as a result of being able to update the "contact" data as some have stated), then I would be a bit happier.

Someone pointed out to me that often when you get a "Bad Username or Password" it means your domain name is actually with eNom. I had the same problem earlier today and found out my domain was actually with eNom. Check your WHOIS and see who it lists as the registrar. If it is with Enom, go to enomcentral.com, create a free account, and then create a support ticket to have them push your domain into your enomcentral.com account.
