This site has been offline since August and I apologize for not keeping it going. Other projects were more important and after our last hosting experience with HostNine, the site was all messed up and had to spend hours collecting data and working on files so that it could be revived. Registerflies is here to stayWith both the support of some of the folks here and other people in the industry, Registerflies.com is here to stay. Our focus is not going to be just on Registerfly or Regfly.com but the entire industry because not much has changed for the better. Please read on to see what's planned for the future of Registerflies. Registrars and ResellersFirst of all, I'm setting up a function that will allow the reviews of both Registrars and Resellers and promote the transparency of both. The intent is to inform the general public with information as well as keep these companies from ripping people off. The industry as a whole is like the wild west as you all know and it doesn't seem to get any better. There are a lot of problems that plague this industry and one of the biggest is that of the ICANN corporation and their ability to enforce the rules and policies they put in place. Registrars are snapping up domain names after people do searches and domain tasting has become a new business model. Meanwhile, there are many registrars and resellers that leave ghosts of domains in the accounts of registrants causing confusion etc. We have some registrars that include usernames in the whois information while others include usernames and passwords in all their communication with Registrants. We also have inaccurate information on registrants due to privacy of domains so the Registries don't get the real domain owner. This was in the case of Registerfly which made it very difficult to track down who owned what. The industry is a good one however, there are many companies out there exploiting the weaknesses within the ICANN corporation and among them are GoDaddy, Network Solutions, NamesBeyond and many others. The industry needs advocacy for the right thing and I hope that Registerflies will be able to shed light on some of the things going on and force the hand of change for a better tomorrow. This site is undergoing changesPlease be patient as this site undergoes changes. To put it simply, the site was started while on hold with Registerfly and never had any firm planning behind it. So, I'm going to do my best to preserve the information that is on this site as well as the contributions that others have made towards this site. However, this site will no longer focus solely on Regfly.com or Registerfly.com. Changes coming are:
There are going to be other things planned so that is the stage we are in. If you have any suggestions or features that you'd like to see added, please post them as a comment. Usernames are the same and passwords are the same, nothing has changed. Contact me if you'd like to change your username. Again, please accept my sincere apologies for not keeping this site online and from this point forward Registerflies is here to serve the greater domain and Internet development community. |
